Mammoth to Tuolumne
 

Hi,

I used to frequent this group 5 or 6 years ago...but it's been a long
time. I haven't had much opportunity to fish much in the past few
years...

I'm leaving mid-August for 4 days backpacking from Mammoth (Agnew
Meadows) to Tuolumne Meadows.

Anyone out their backpacked and fished along the trail. First night
will probably be in the vicinity of Thousand Island Lake...after that
not sure. But I'm flexible.

It's been two years since I wet a line and I can't wait. If anyone can
offer some tips on places to stop and fish, fly selection etc. I would
greatly appreciate it. I have probably 10 fly boxes at home...but to
keep weight down I want to bring one box of "must haves" in just a few
sizes.

My gratitude for any suggestions to make this a successful return to
the water!

Roger, not sure which way you're starting out, but you may want to stop off
at the Bishop Fly Shop off of 395 heading up to Mammoth. I was in the shop
when I summit Mt. Whitney. They have a great selection of flies and are very
knowledgeable I've backpacked on the John Muir Trail which is a segment of
the Pacific Crest Trail near Mammoth. I've had a lot of success with the
#16-18 Brown Elk Hair Caddis on many of the creeks and streams on the JMT,
however in mid Aug, you may want to match the hatch.
