I just found fishing..again.
 

When I was younger, I used to fish all the time with my father and then when
he passed away I quickly lost interest. Twelve years have passed and I'm
quickly getting back into fishing but never learned much of it for myself.
I was wondering if someone could recommend an online guide or website for
beginning bass fishing or even a book.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi Christopher,

Welcome back to fishing. This is a great group and they'll answer many questions for you. Just
remember that this is one large, somewhat daffy family. You'll get some smarta$$ answers, you'll
get some great answers and we have our equivilent of the crazy aunt with all the cats too. Just
remember that this group focuses primarily on largemouth and smallmouth bass.

I might be somewhat biased, but http://www.outdoorfrontiers.com is a good place to ask questions
that are either of a more general nature, or non-bass related. Ronnie Garrison (a frequent
contributor to this group) wrote "The Everything Fishing Book" available from Amazon.com. I have a
copy and found that it's very well written for the novice angler.

There are a number of forums such as min listed in my tag. Steve's which is
very good. The forum at the fishingclub.com (NAFC) website, and the forums
at the bass pro web sites. They all have different people and different
perspectives. When I have a questions I usually ask here first, then I'll
post my question in all of those forums as well.

Another thing you might learn something from is the FAQ site for this
newsgroup. www.ROFB.net

A lot of recurrent questiosn and extremely useful tidbits of information
from this news group have been immortalized there with the help of Andrew
Kidd the webmaster for the site.

Bass fishnig has not changed that much. You don't need any books or web
sites to start. Just take one of your youngsters or some body elses and go
fishing and teach them what your dad taught you. Let your youngster guide
you into what both of you need to know as you learn together. Better hurry!
Kids grow up in a hurry.

Hey Chris,

I,too, have just gotten back into fishing and have been lurking around this
newsgroup for the past few weeks and have picked up loads of useful information
and several good laughs. One website that was turned my way when I asked the
same question that you did is www.rofb.net. Lot's a good information that you
probably knew at one time but have forgotten about by now, and lot's info that
is common sense but sometimes needs to be addressed.
Hope you find it as helpful as I did.

Oh by the way...I'm catching fish now! Wooo-hoooooo!!!!!!!

I wish I had youngsters to take. I do take my wife. My father wasn't much
of a bass fisher and never fished with lures or spinners. So, it's somewhat
a new discovery to me

Go visit the local fish clubs. Local tackle shops will tell you where they
meet. The Bass and Panfish clubs have good outings with kids and they
always need volunteers. Local FFF and TU clubs also have meetings. Ask the
officers if they know any boys or girls that need a big brother/sister and
you and your wife can take them fishing. Also many service clubs, parks and
city organizations have fishing events for kids during the summer.
Volunteers are always needed and appreciated. Getting involved with a club
will put you in touch with fishng buddies and mentors for yourself. You
will receive plenty of dividends. I remember once when club volunteers
helped keep a boy from goiing down the wrong road.

An acceptable option is catching 3-4 smaller but legal sized bass!
