IM6 deterioration over time?

I was putting away a rod built around 12 years ago and noticed that
the tip section has a curve in it that had not been there the last
time I used the rod. This rod was built from a Winston IM6 blank,
FWIW.
I checked to see if the spline had been positioned wrong, and it's
not. The curve is to the left.
The rod is stored in a tube when not in use, standing on end. The tube
is racked in my den, so it hasn't been exposed to any extreme
temperatures.

What could the cause be? Does IM6 break down over time?

Damn it, I liked this rod.

Well the fact that its a Winston blank - Kenny's preferred brand - and that
it curves left, may be indicative of the problem. 8)

HEY !!!! I resemble that remark ! ;-)

I don't have any Winston rods that weren't built by Winston
so I can't vouch for their blanks. But I've never seen any
graphite rod that was stored properly just inexplicably curve
to the left or the Republican in 12 years. It's a mystery to
me.
