I remember reading here, and I'm too lazy to go back and
Google it, about a particular brand or flavor of the bowel
Drano you have to consume before a colonoscopy. It was one
of the rare displays of unanimity I've ever seen on roff,
everyone seemed to agree on it. So, what is it ?

Fleets phosphate of soda. 6 oz, then another 6oz 4hrs later. They
also tried to give me a "stool softener." 30 minutes after the Fleets
hit my system, I needed a water softener.

Budweiser......tastes so bad you won't notice what's going
on at the other end. ;-)

Thankfully still 15 years from caring.

I think you mean Fleet's Phospho-Soda (Sp?), and yeah, it'll clean you
out, er, but good, as will any of the related stuff, like Citrate of
Magnesia/magnesium citrate/etc. That said, I thought they gave the
probee-to-be whatever they wanted to torture them with - no?

FWIW, unless you, um, anticipate the need a lot of it, a inexpensive
bottle of ready-to-consume magnesium citrate is probably a better deal
than a bottle of Fleet's that will last most folks several
lifetimes...OTOH, since it's Forty, it might take a full bottle of
Fleet's...

Magnesium Citrate. A coupla bucks at yer neighborhood Walgreen's/Osco/CVS,
etc. I recommend the cherry flavor. Drink bottle, wait for results. Doesn't
take long.....

Of course talk to your doc to make sure s/he agrees. Do whatever you can to
dissuade the doc from forcing you to drink a gallon of Colyte. If s/he
forces you to use Colyte, find another doc. it's a horrible, horrible
experience.

Why the difference? In either case, you essentially become one with the
toilet for a while. With Colyte, it's a GALLON of puke tasting stuff that
induces a gradual, excruciatingly crampy experience that drags on for six or
seven hours. With mag citrate, it's a pint (+/-) of only moderately horrible
stuff that brings on a far less crampy experience that lasts about half the
time. My doc said the ....ahem...results... were the same.

While at your local druggist, pick up a good book and a can of Oust. Trust
me.

Ask your doc if drinking Gatorade (or similar) is OK. If s/he allows it,
drink lots. You'll feel like **** (hah!) and the Gatorade will help.

Good luck,
Dan

That's it !! That's what I remember, er ... failed to remember.
Thanks Daniel.

And it's not for me, btw. SWMBO was also born in '56 and they're
finally getting around to her colonoscopy but I guess mine will
be coming soon enough.

I've gotten them for a while now, roughly once a year. Unfortunately, my
genes are rife with problems with the "lower unit" so it's part of my
life -- sucks, but it could be much worse. If this is Christine's first
'scope, she might want to consider asking the doc for a slightly higher dose
of Valium (or whichever drug the doc chooses.) For my first one I was so
f'in nervous, the doc doubled my dose before I drifted into la la land.
But(t) it's over before you know it.

All in all, it really could be much, much worse than it is.

It "ain't" fun!
I just had one done late Nov
Although the doctor gave me enough drugs that I was wasted for 2 days - the
good part
It still wasn't fun!
I drank OUST the day before and sh** my brains out -

I am currently in the process of growing my brains back.
