B.A.S.S. business tactics.
A couple of years ago after sending in a 3 year membership to B.A.S.S., they sent me a hard cover book and wanted me to either send them the money for the book or send them the payment. I was shocked that they resorted to book club type of tactics. A week or so ago, I was called and asked who I wanted to give a gift subscription to. Tonight the called me confirming my mailing address and something about renewing my subscription, they asked if I understood and acknowledged what they were telling me. I think they was trying to "trick" me into okaying the subscription renewal and they were going to bill me for it. I don't understand why B.A.S.S. would want to try to "trick" their customers into renewing their subscription. I like the magazine and joined B.A.S.S. because of my interest in Bass fishing, I don't need to be "tricked" into renewing my subscription. That kind of telemarketing just doesn't fit what I thought B.A.S.S. was about. I still have a few months left of my membership & subscription. I like the magazine, members, and Bass fishing, but I won't renew due to their low life book club and telemarketing business tactics. Anyone else getting these types of calls from them? RogerN |

I don't anymore. Oh, I still get the occasional mailing, but they have
not made a serious attempt to rip me off in some time. It was only when I was fishing IL BASS that they played those games. BASS did the book thing with me. I refused to send it back and I refused to pay for it. Eventually they got the message and quit calling. |

I got the book from them and went through the trouble to send it back. I thought it would be more of an issue for them if I sent it back than if I kept it. Personally, I think the whole BASS marketing thing is a PITA, but I still like the magazine. Most of it is pure, unadulterated fish porn as it appeals to prurient interest with all those bright shiny pictures of new gear, boats, lures, etc. Great bathroom reading. |

I don't get such calls, or books, probably cause I've been a life member since the 70's... Warren www.warrenwolk.com "johnval1" wrote in message t... Roger,
I didn't have the same experience with them, but a nearly as irritating, one resulting in my cancelling Bassmasters Mag and Bass Times. Here is another of thier scams. After I'd been a member for several years I started getting renewal notices every three months literally. Of course each one extended your subscription and required new funds. So if my wife saw it she'd just send in a check thinking it was time to renew the original subscription. It got so you couldn't tell if it was an annual renewal or a quarterly scam for your $ So . . . I decided to express my frustration with a letter to Dave Precht or whatever the editors name was or is. Frankly I got a smart ass letter from him about how horrid it must be to deal with more than one renewal notice. I replied in kind and haven't purchased another BASS product since. I'm sure they don't miss me and I sure as heck don't miss those crooks. m -- God Bless America Josh The Bad Bear |
