gravity fed livewell
 

I'm new to boating and have a question about my livewell.
I just bought a 2004 crestliner 14' Jon, that has a center seat
gravity fed live well. How does it work and is there anything I need
to buy to make it work?

No, it fills itself when you remove the plug in the livewell.

However, when I had one of theses in my boat, I would pull the plug to fill
it then plug it off. I bought aerator kit used for ice chest and installed
it in the live well. Depending on the length of my trip, I would drain the
water every 2 hours and refill to keep the water cool so it would not kill
my bait or fish depending on its use.

This is the first I heard of a gravity filled livewell. Thanks for the
explanation. I was beginning to wonder if it was some sort of joke meaning
that you take a large bucket, reach over the side of boat, fill the bucket,
and then empty it into the livewell. Gravity is definitely at play there.

The only problem is the livewell will only fill to the level the boat sits in
the water. If the boat is 4" deep in the water then the livewell will only have
4" of water in it.

....that could be overcome by fitting a tube or PVC pipe into the drain hole
to allow the well to hold water above the waterline....combined with the
aerator and "gravity fill" previously mentioned you'd have a good set-up.
Don't forget some ice as well during the hot summer months and some
"Please-Release-Me" helps quite a bit too. said Huck
