Colonoscopies redux
Because this was discussed here not too long ago, my apologies to
those who haven't yet attained old farthood..... ....but am I the only one amazed that American medicine is only now discovering that doctors can find polyps a whole lot more often if they spend just a couplefew more minutes looking?!? http://tinyurl.com/yd75mk JR (who's handing a stopwatch to the nurse the next time in....) (and who's starting to wonder if they've even given any thought to alternatives to that digital thingy.....) |
Colonoscopies redux
Because this was discussed here not too long ago, my apologies to
those who haven't yet attained old farthood..... Actually, John, they're the only ones who should be concerned. Those who have really achieved old farthood, like me, no longer need to be. After my (second) colonoscopy, a couple of years ago, the doc said, "I have good news, and good news." "The good news is that you passed. And the other good news is, you'll never have to go through this again." He went on to explain that colonoscopies are not usually done on anyone older than 75 because the risks outweigh the benefits. So hang in there.....75 arrives a lot quicker than we expect it. vince |

I dunno if I'd look forward to the day that the potential of having bowel cancer was the good option. :-( --riverman |

- Ken Bowel perforation risky enough for you? Yeah, that's what the doc said. Bowel tissue becomes thinner and weaker--more susceptible to puncture-- as one ages. He also suggested, in more med-school language, that if no signs of impending colon cancer can be spotted at age 75, you'll probably DIE before the cancer can kill you. Now if that ain't cheery news, what the heck is? vince |
