Trolling motor follow-up

All,

First of all, I would like to thank everyone on this newsgroup for their
great input. The question posted was whether or not to go with a 82lb
or a 109lb trolling motor on my ZX225. I just ordered a 2007 Tour
Series 82lb foot control motor. I just could not see spending another
$100 (this includes another battery) for the 109lb motor since I do not
fish tournaments outside of clubs.

I had a 67lb motorguide on the boat which was not the original motor.
The original was an 82lb that was stolen off of the boat before I
purchased it. The 67 was not powerful enough so I decided to buy a
trolling motor on ebay. I purchased a 82lb Digital Steer unit from
someone that had good feedback. The auction stated that it was a
rebuilt unit and had a 90 day warranty. Knowing this, I purchased it
figuring if there was a problem within 90 days I could have it repaired.

After receiving and installing the motor I noticed two problems:

1) It had less power than my 67lb motor
2) The constant-on did not work reliably

I took it to the local motorguide repair outfit and they told me the
motor was from 2002-2003 and was in no way rebuilt by motorguide. So
here I was with a motor purchased on Ebay that in reality had not
warranty and was not working. I really thought I was going to be out of
the money I had spent on the unit. After contacting the seller and
explaining the situation they agreed to take the motor back and give me
a full refund. I did not want to mention their name until this occured
but I must say I fairly happy with their customer service. I do think
they are misrepresenting the units but the fact that they took it back
and that they have great feedback must mean they are not out to take
advantage of people. The name of the company is "Porter Pawn", and I
would purchase from them again. But would not buy such an expensive
item in the future.

Looking back at it, yes I could have saved hundreds by buying this
"rebuilt" motor, but in the long run I almost lost $750.

Once again, I am new to this newsgroup but I am intrigued to see what is
being posted daily. I really appreciate all the input. Now if I could
just find those Arkie Mirrorglow spinner baits somewhere at a reasonable
price :)

Thanks

-Bennett

I look forward to your report on how the motor works for you after you
have run it a while.

Trolling motor follow-up

Well, I've used it twice now since installing it and I have not found a
situation where 82lb was not powerful enough yet. Even fished one day
with the winds gusting about 12mph and did not have any problems. All
in all, I am very happy with Tour 82lb on the Skeeter ZX225.

Thanks again to everyone for their advice.
