Since the idiots have started posting on this group I have been using
outlook express as my newsgroup reader. There is a setting on Outlook express where you can block users, block subject lines and even block posts that appear on other newsgroups. This leaves me with no junk postings to wade through and saves me getting cheesed off with the idiots. Hope this helps Dave |

Hope this Filters and killfile filters are (technically not part of the reader but of the news transport/client) a feature of practically all newsreaders. Filtering on X-posts can be a little OT as there are sometimes relevant threads posted to several fishing groups. If you look at the headers you'll find a couple of common constituents of the bang path (jargon: the Path: header with '!' seperators) which mark out Pete the troll whichever ID he's using. Filter on those and then on the obvious veggie and politics newsgroups and you'll have the same effect without losing anything worthwhile. You will eventually have to pay for a full version if you want all the facilities (There is a -very- out of date free version available which is better than Outlook Express) The point is that it has to be good enough to be worth paying for as opposed to all the 'free' dross. There's a free, one month trial period: http://www.forteinc.com/ Turnpike has a good reputation too, not so many features but free afaIct: http://www.demon.net/toolkit/downloads/ I use neither of these - I don't use Windows, so I have an ancient RISCOS transport with a bit of bespoke code running extra filters.
