Several choices and several species, I assume you mean trout? Starting with a stocked tailwater in the immediate area and going north and west gets you into real water. Personally, I would head towards Brevard NC and the Davidson River getting help from the Davidson River Outfitters or go towards N. GA and the Chattooga (reciprical agreement between SC and GA for licenses) But there is also tidal salt water fishing 2 1/2 hours east if that is what you want and of course plenty of warm water opportunities. Yes, I could provide more info but then would have missed the banter. 2 to 2.5 hours by car. Fly fish, trout, warm water, sal****er, that part doesn't really matter. More important to get a taste for the area fishing-wise. What would be the most productive that time of year. I don't want to have to commit to a guide because I will be working and will only be able to fish if everything goes well at work (computers you know- disaster recovery drill). wrote in message .. . Mr. Dean and I, to my knowledge have no crosses to bear, he's a conservative cracker from somewhere south and I'm a liberal cracker from Lousiana stuck in the purgartory that is Indianapolis. Columbia is one of those places that's near everything, it's an easy drive to the Atlantic Coast via Myrtle Beach or a up the Interstate to Asheville and Charlotte. There is a decent lake there and I understand that the area below one of the dams is run as a put and take trout fishery. I never lived in Columbia but I lived in the Atlanta area and Myrtle Beach and know Columbia as a place to eat dinner while passing through. End of March should be OK weatherwise, the trout fishing in the mountains to the north and west should be starting to fish well but there is always a chance of a late spring cool snap or March rains, I prefer middle to end of April and May to chase the mtn trout but think it is worth a shot. The sage fly rod web site lists a place called the Backpacker Quality Gear, in Columbia as a dealer. I wasn't so much suggesting a guide as I was a place to obtain more current information then what I can offer. Wayne |

Um, well, I suspect that we both have LOTS of crosses to bear, but no swords at cross. IOW, we's cool, you big sexy snob, you. And BTW, I'd be the liberal cracker, and you the neo-liberal cracker... Was in NW Fla after X-Mas and there's a local rest. that has the best cajun outside of acadiana that I've ever ate. He also sells the sausages so I am set. But keep me in mind for next time. |
