pleasant, hours sitting on the deck in the warm sun and watching
the various birds show up and check out the nooks and crannies in the
cottonwoods. They never end up picking our trees but each year a pair
of Wood Ducks gives them a thorough inspection. I saw them today
apparently just starting to pair up and fly together, not house hunting
yet, but ...soon.

I know many of you are still gripped in Winter, but look West or South ...
Spring is on it's way .... honest !
Indian Joe offers--spring not here yet in coastal N.C.--still have to wear
a shirt to play tennis and kayak is still hung in garage.

Currently feeding lots of yellow rumped warblers--and a couple of piliated
woodpeckers-{ may be youngsters from last year's hatch ]--the pine forest we
had as back yard is now houses so we are also now visited by two huge cats.
any ideas on what to feed these two [ too many kids around to use my trusty
22 with low volosity bullets]--is there a poison I can put in food that
might erase them?
Thanks in advance--you do not have to include your name

Blow gun will do the job.....quietly. Aluminum tube (comes in a variety of
styles and colors.....even camouflage!) comes with darts that have a small
plastic cone (substitutes for fletching and acts as a piston) at the back
end. A little bit of practice makes it deadly accurate out to 20 yards or
so. Available at many sporting goods stores nationwide. See, for example:

or, so I've heard.......I wouldn't know anything about such matters
myself......and most certainly wouldn't advocate their use against kitties.

head for home and not come back...........Put a wooly bugger on your
fly rod and cast to them catch them put in a burlap bag spray with
ether add rocks drop off nearest bridge...........As Wolfie would say
not that I have ever done this but sound like a plan to me..........

The "Have-a- Heart brand traps or one of the many knockoffs work quite
well on cats and racoons. There about a 16" square and 3 foot long.
Check your local hardware store if your in a rural or semi rural
area. You may also need a new garbage can. One that is big enough to
put the trap in. Cats and racoons don't seem to be able to swim well
with the trap. I went to a presentation a few weeks ago on wind
turbines. The guy said the average turbine kills 8 bird a year. Cars
kiil a lot more and cats killed about 80 times the number as
windturbines.
If there are skunks around you may catch one of those. If so you may
have to call someone to come and get it. I know of one guy who put a
blue poly tarp over the trap and wraps it up. Supposedly he releases
them somewhere.

I went up to the local hardware and bought me a 'have a heart?' trap. Metal
with a door that springs and traps them alive. My first season I caught
five...

Hey Joe!
I could loan you my paint ball gun. Freeze a few paint balls and crank it up
to 300 fps or so. For sure they will think a small freight train whizzed by.
Very quiet.

Just got back from the San Juan. Only fished 1 and 1/2 days. Caught a few
(15) with the largest a little less than 18". Most all were pretty
sluggish. All but one were on a 22 or 24 dropper. There were only 10 or 12
people on the river. Most of them in the Texas Hole. It was great. Very
relaxing with the giant snow flakes disappearing in the water.

Oh.....just saw a cat jump my back fence...gotta go.
