Fishing in Ireland
"Dave Merrill" wrote in message ... Looking for some information. I have a chance to take some time and fish in Ireland in May. What are my options? Any recomendations? Not looking to break the bank here. What are the chances on catching a salmon? TIA R's Dave Dave, I was looking into this myself when I had a friend scout out Ireland last year. Not sure if you heard of Angling for Salmon on Ireland's Cork Blackwater. It was voted Best Fly Fishing Guesthouse Hotel for 2006 Flyfisher Magazine. Looks pretty complete and very tempting. The price seems right too, if I calculated Ireland pounds to U.S. Dollars correctly. In anycase, here is the link: http://www.ireland-salmon-fishing.net/index.htm They're located in the South of Ireland near the border between Counties Cork and Waterford. The Cork airport is less than an hour away. fwiw, -tom |

What are the chances on catching a salmon? TIA R's Dave Good. I'd advise you to get a book called "Trout and Salmon Rivers of Ireland: An Angler's guide" by Peter O'Reilly. I fish in the Northern half of Ireland, and don't know the Cork Blackwater, but it has a great reputation. If you're coming in May you should, though, also think of fishing tro9ut one of the big Irish lakes. My favourite is Lough Arrow, but Mask and Corrib are also wonderful. Terrific landscape too.
