has anyone been over here to ireland for the fishing???
or could i help anybody that is cuming over with sum info????

Not since September. Now planning a (probable) visit about grilse time and
another later on - though it might have to wait 'til next year if the draw
of a certain other venue grows too strong ;-)

A surprising number of anglers don't understand the difference between good
fishing and easy fishing. Irish fishing is usually an excellent example of
good fishing - the fish are there, they're often first class specimens and
in good quantities and they can be caught -if- the angler takes sufficient
care.

Unfortunately the information I -really- need is of the unguessable sort:
eg. in which week will the bulk of the grilse run this summer...

what part are u cuming to(propably)??I am up in the northwest of
ireland(donegal)there is alot of great fishing around,though as u
stated all nearly spate rivers with the ecaption of a few.the mighty
river finn is near hand(10 miles).the fishing here can be exellent
giving water,but this year could be better the drift nets have
stopped with 65 000 more salmon will survive the slauter(thats the
offical count)i would say nearer 100 00 somtimes the net men forget to
add a fem 1000 salmon to there total(,easy mistake to make)But sadly
derek not all is rosey in the garden the fishery board have closed
alot of rivers dew to conservasion level(bullocks)23 in all in
donegal....and there is alot of anglers refusing to take out licences
so i dont know what is around the corner????

ps as for the grilse,at one time u could have set your clock for
them,but they are later and later and smaller every year..

I learned some time ago not to make hard plans until close to departure
time - and to stay flexible even then. The Foyle -is- on the 'watch these'
list as are the Moy and the west Mayo rivers but so is Galway and the SW.
Last autumn we were in West Cork as the rivers were too low to be
worthwhile and we wound up mostly sea fishing - mullet and pollack
predominated - mullet to over 7lb so well worth the effort but OT here.
Predictably, on the last day of the trip the heavens opened ... a variant on
the ol' "You should have been here last week" syndrome.

ps as for the grilse,at one time u could have set your clock for
them,but they are later and later and smaller every year..

If we get another dry season it might be better to look for seatrout or
(sal****er) bass.

Decisions, decisions...
