Every year in the spring I go out on this northern lake and catch tons
of fish shortly after ice out, and continue to catch them all the way up
till they spawn in this same channel. Then I go back a week or so later
and find no fish, where do they go.

Well, you could try backing out to the first drop, you should find them
there. Also, fish around any emerging weeds, stumps and rock piles you can
find.

They go deeper. Like Steve said . . . try off the first drop and any
structure on it. But remember that in the low light times of days they often
move up to feed. Top water lures in early morn or evening onto dark are good
bets. ( Buzz baits, poppers etc.)
