Taquamenon Smallmouth fishing

Anybody have an experience up there in the Taquamenon River in the
Michigan's UP? I will be up there soon, and thought about spending a day
there and giving it a try. Specifically, I was wondering if that was pretty
much a canoe river only, or if I could get a boat in there, near the mouth
on Lake Superior? I was up there and looked around, but the bottom was so
dark from the leaching tannin's, that I couldn't really tell the depth. The
boy waded in, came back out and had 2 leeches on him, and I said, "Nope, not
gonna do it"
But the river looked quite beautiful and secluded, and I didn't see any
other boats, or anything for that matter. It just had the "Smallmouth" look
to it though.

All I know is it looks like it "should" be productive, but I've never heard
anything about the fishing there, in it. I have a 16 1/2 foot Deep V with a
9.9 and I don't know if that's the right boat for that water, or if I'd be
wasting my time pulling the extra mileage?

Thanks guys,

Doug
