Gurgler?
What is it? I've seen it mentioned in several places as the best fly
for taimen (black/olive in 2/0 or 3/0 sizes), but my searches have brought up a whole array of different looking things called 'gurglers'. Is is a specific pattern, or is it type of fly (like a 'terrestrial' or 'dry'), or is it a generic name for any big fly that has a lot of noise associated with it? Thanks....if anyone wants to tie up a couple big ones and send them my way, I'll let you know how they do. :-) --riverman |

What is it? Here's the web page from Jack Gartside. In the second group of flies you'll see many variations. These are INCREDIBLY easy to tie. http://www.jackgartside.com/flies_fresh_list.php -- TL, Tim ------------------------- http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

As Tim pointed out, a Jack Gartside creation. They do make a lot of racket in the water Lee Haskins has created some variations, that I use a lot for stripers. http://www.gurglersonline.com/ If Taimen are aggressive, baitfish feeders, I have no doubt gurglers will work. Thanks....if anyone wants to tie up a couple big ones and send them my way, I'll let you know how they do. :-) How big is "big ones". :-) brians --riverman |

How big are the ones used for stripers? Whoa, a gurgler tied on a 10X #2 Carrie Stevens hook. Sounds like something I would tie. Frank Reid |

What makes Lee's Gurglers unique, is the foam he uses. It's dense, and very durable. Nothing like the "fly tying" foam you can buy. Very tough stuff, with the weak link in the fly, being the tail material. I have around a dozen Gurglers, and haven't worn one out yet. brians |
