reel problem
 

Hi,
I recently got my mitchell 624 reel serviced and it needed a replacement
shaft, which was done.

I have been using it since but the spool seems to slip like mad...It's like
the reel is just giving up. The clutch seems to have no play in it.

Any ideas, and its defo not the line slipping.

If it wasn't broke before you had it fixed I would suspect that who
ever fixed it broke it. I'd take it back to the "fixer.".

As I recall the shaft on the 624 is integral with the spool so without
specialist tools it would be difficult to replace one without the other,
even then it would not be easy.

Most probable cause is that the clutch has either been put together
incorrectly, or the clutch plates have been contaminated with oil or
grease.

Hi, the old shaft was sent to me so i believe it was replaced, and in all
honesty i pulled in a very nice smoothound shortly afterwards with no probs,
so im unsure,

I do wd40 reels after use, could this have gone through to the internal
plates?

Whoops, theres your answer. Why WD, they only need a run under a gently
running cold tap. As you say theres not much adjustment so the clutch is as
new, strip it down & soak the friction & steel clutch washers in meths or
lighter fluid.
