You would be a month early ( see story about world record fly rod
chinook). Are you going on the east or ocean side of the coast
range?
IT;s gets a lot of pressure and the state watches it very closely.
It's closed now for Chinook. There are lots of guides that work both
sides of the mountains. A guy with your bucks should see lots of
action. The worlds record chinook on a fly rod was caught there a
couple of years ago.

The upper section (above Gold Ray dam) is fly-only in September
and October. Very good summer steelhead fishing, but as BJ says,
heavily fished. Limited bank access in that stretch, and the
preferred method is nymphing under an indicator in slots that
often can only be fished by boat. If you go, get a guide.
