help on the cloudy river.

Hello,
Just looking for some advice on fishing for smallmouth when a river is
cloudy or washing out after a rain. Wondering if it's best to wait a
day for the water to clear or if there are any flies/techniques I
should try that the fish will notice?... When the water is clear here
(Rocky RIver) the fish readily take muddlers, and wolly buggers, and
other streamers etc. But when it's colored the fish shut off for me
completely.
Any advice appreciated,
Brian

Fish along the river bank, fish larger than usual patterns, and fish them
slower than usual. I like olive & olive/chartreuse wool headed zonkers for
river smallies (that is, assuming my favorite frog colored poppers aren't
working, which is what I'd expect when the river's colored up). #2 hook and
about 8 inches long. Twitch them slowly along the bank and you can often
dredge up some pretty big fish...
