I caught a striper once that had a head like that. The short mouth plate and the color pattern indicates its probably a deformed spot. I have caught largemouth with a jutting lower jaw like that before. Usually in places where the primary forage is crayfish. Often those with that big lower jaw have a sore ringed by scare tissue, from mucking around in the mud and rocks rooting out tasty little mud bugs I would guess. I've seen it often enough in the river in crayfish type spots (I catch more in those spots on craws and craw pattern cranks) that I have often wondered if it might be a mild genetic varient or sub species. This fish though I suspect is just deformed. Bob La Londe http://www.YumaBassMan.com |
