WEIRD BASS

I was catching little spotted bass on every cast, then this thing hit
the line, I landed it, and then no other fish where caught by anyone for
the next 1 hour, until I left anyway

I just posted a picture over on alt.binaries.pictures.fishing

What kind of bass is that ???????????????

The forhead is weird. I caught a striper once that had a head like
that. The short mouth plate and the color pattern indicates its
probably a deformed spot. I have caught largemouth with a jutting
lower jaw like that before. Usually in places where the primary
forage is crayfish. Often those with that big lower jaw have a sore
ringed by scare tissue, from mucking around in the mud and rocks
rooting out tasty little mud bugs I would guess. I've seen it often
enough in the river in crayfish type spots (I catch more in those
spots on craws and craw pattern cranks) that I have often wondered if
it might be a mild genetic varient or sub species. This fish though I
suspect is just deformed.
