I presume it's still due to you on Nov 21?

I'm having trouble with the name of my fly. I bought the original at
Kaufmann's in Bellevue, and it's a lot like a Freight Train, not a
Signal Light, but not quite that either.

Tail: purple hackle fibers
Body: rear 1/3 orange, middle 1/3 red, front 1/3 Purple
Rib: Oval tinsel
Hackle: Purple
Wing: Pearl Crystal Flash
Head: Black

Freight train variation is my best guess, anybody know?

Chas,
Got curious. Kaufmann's 2003 print catalog shows 4 Freight Train patterns.
(page 121) What you describe looks similar to their Krystal Flash Freight
Train. Proportions between their regular Freight Train and Kyrstal Flash
version are inconsistent in their catalog. Pic of the Krystal Flash version
also makes it difficult to differentiate between orange and red on the back
portion of the body, but my eyes convinced me it was there. They are using
chenille for the front portion of the body. (you just mentioned purple so
don't know what you are using)
Pics of both are also on their website.

Thanks Dave, I looked up that site and didn't find what I have. I also
couldn't find the original, and now I suspect this variation I'm using
is a result of my poor memory. I'm going to stick with my variation
since it works for me(and I've already tied 4 of them for the swap). I
guess I should call it something like BFT for ******* Freight Train.

That's about the same recipe as the "Freight Train, Krystal Flash" in
Fly Patterns of Umpqua Feather Merchants except:

the front 1/3 of their body is black
their wing is pearl, blue and purple Krystal Flash

Thanks Charlie, maybe I should tie half those and half my variation.

The final list has apparently been whittled down. I have in my grubby paws
some beautiful flies from:
Scott Seidman-- Gary Glitter (and maybe a Skyomish Sunrise variation)
Tim Carter--Electric Candy Cane
Chas Wade-- Signal Light
Bob Wetzler (lurker!!!)--- Rusher Stone Flies

Unless I hear otherwise, I will have them in the mail by weeks end,
distributed equitably.
