Sweet striperdom

Hello gang,

It seems up here in Maine there are a number of stripers that are
stubbornly not leavingthis fall. The local salt marsh is flooded with
Smelt being chased by mackerel, and we have seen some pretty decent
stripers in the water, and jumping.

I had one hooked on a surf candy fly, and it seems they are totally
ignoring top water poppers completely. However, we have had some
difficulty getting them hooked or interested, even when using whole
smelts and Macks.

What do you bass guys usually start turning to late in the striper
season for these cold water stragglers? Just when I thought i had them
all figured out, I can't get them to nibble.
