soft jerkbaits

I know it's late in the season to be talking soft jerkbaits, but I had
fun using a assassin early this fall, the only thing I didn't like was
the bait comming out of the water, what is the best way to fish these
baits? rod, reel line ect.

When fishing Flukes I find the way the line comes off the eye of the
hook makes a difference. If the knot is on top of the eye it makes the
fluke go up, on the bottom it goes down. A lot of folks use a fairly
big swivel about 18 inches ahead of the bait to keep it down, and
there are weighted hooks that help.

I had a non-boater fishin Yuma Pro Am with me earlier this year and he had a
short fast snap that didn't seem to cause the baits to surface the way they
typically do. He was snapping the rod to very very fast and frequently, but
the travel was very small. It seemed to work for him.

In addition to weighted hooks, you can also crimp a rubberless rubber core
sinker onto the hook shank.

You can also crimp a couple of slit shots on the hook, or wrap some lead
wire around it
