Tired Springs

Hello all,

This fall I am trying something new to me - using clicker drag reels for
steelhead and big lake run brown trout. I took to this because I am a
fan of Hardy reels, and discovered that you gan get used JLH's and
Marquis for relatively cheap. I also figured that any reel with a palm
flange gives you complete control anyway. Steelhead in the Erie
tributaries generally require light tippets(2, 3, and 4X), so there is
no need for the drag to bear down very hard.

Now, you do want to get the most resistance you can from the spring and
pawls, so I shimmed the spring under the adjustment mechanism on my 3
5/8" Perfect. Gives me the tension I need. Just curious if Iam in
danger of wearing out the spring. Perhaps Hardy sells heavier springs
that may be inserted? Has anybody else tried this trick?
