Anyone fish the tamiami trail (us 41)

Hey I was wondering if anyone could give me information on the fishing
on the tamiami trail? I would like to catch a small snook or tarpon
on my fly rod. I also hear the fresh water fishing is pretty good on
the trail too. how do you go about finding fish. What patterns work?
Are there any trails away from 41 to drive on and explore. Thanks
Mike

I haven't heard of any snook or tarpon coming out of those canals. You can try
for peacocks or bass on a fly.

I did see a tv fishing show where they were catching juvi tarpon. I am
not certain exactly where it was though. Several of my buddies and I
went down and fished Flamingo and on the way back stopped and fished the
canals. Never saw tarpon but I am sure we were not in thr right places.
As Dan notes there are peacocks but more prevalent are the cichlids. I
could not get any to take a fly but had several follows. They are also
accompanied by many gar.

More interesting maybe is the wildlife. Exactly where I decided to stop
and fish, next to the guard rail was a 5 foot gator and I can not count
the number of snakes. Made me wonder how the gator and reptile
businesses ever attracted anyone. Stop anywhere and see them.

I want to find the canals myself. If I ever ger time to return.

If you find anything pass it along ;)

good fishin'
