Don't wait too long........
Don't wait too long to do the things that you have always dreamed about.
If many of us wait till we are senior fly fishers to go to our dream places like Montana, Alaska and New Zealand, we might not be in the physical condition to really enjoy the experience like we would be at a younger age. This brings up another issue, retirement. Some will want to work longer for their own reasons but most outdoorsy people want to get retired at a reasonable age and do some things they never had time to do while they were still working. Not everyone is going to have the freedom of choice here due to other circumstances, but if given the choice, bail out of that job and do something exciting for yourself before it is too late. After having taken many older fly fishers on group trips in their '70s and even '80s, I can see they waited too long to go. They have physical limitations that keep them from doing as well fly fishing and also just being comfortable. Some of the old timers we have taken did do lots of fishing their entire life and just wanted to get in one more good trip. This could just be setting up a week trip to the Upper Sacramento River in June so you can hit prime time and have enough days to get in some great Nor Cal trout fishing. You can rent a little cabin/cottage and even get a good guide for a day or two. -- Randolph Hurst @ the castle |
