Urgent action needed -Bush/Cheney Energy Bill
First of all, this bill was concocted in secret closed door meetings.
Cheney still refuses to follow the law and release these records and memos to comittee. this bill also contains TWENTY BILLION dollars in welfare to industry -specifically nuclear and gas/oil interests. The bill also ends environmental protections for drilling on public lands, as well as ends review processes for these acts. If this bill passes, the Rocky Mountain Front in Montana will be developed, roaded, and filled with the stench of natural gas works. This area is the wildest we have left. Not to mention the Republicans shut democrats out of the hearing, and has given them only 48 hours to review the 1000 + page bill. Both sides should be given ample time to study the bill - this is preposterous in and of itself. This bill is a JOKE. It does nothing to secure America's energy needs (except the grid bit), nor does it allow development of alternative energies. It's the 1950's all over again. you have every single conservation and most gun group opposing this plan. Even conservative Field and Stream is railing against this, as well as the Montana gun owners association. Please contact your Senator and tell them to say no to a secret meeting bill that is waste of taxpayer dollars and that refuses to afford protectons to our last wild places. What a joke. Tell them to filibuster this bill. http://www.senate.gov/ |

... nor does it allow development of alternative energies.
Actually there is money in this bill for development of alternative technologies, although you will probably still oppose the bill overall. In the 1,148-page bill, Republicans authorized $273-million for nuclear R&D in fiscal 2004, increasing to $545-million in FY-08. The amount was more than half of the $480-million authorized for renewable energy R&D in FY-04, which would increase to $710-million in FY-08. Funding for fossil R&D was authorized at $530-million, under the bill, ramping up to $626-million in FY-08. John Hughes |

Giving 20 billion in incentives to oil , gas and nuclear, while giving
a fraction of that to new energy is allowing for development of alternative energy? I don't think so. Nice try John. |
