I was looking at the map the other day, and was wondering if there would be
any good stream fishing in Northern Nevada?

I have a good friend that worked for a couple years as a fisheries
biologist, doing environmental impact reports in north central Nevada

He told me of finding many streams with good trout fishing but I "don't
remember" exactly where G

Worth some exploration if you are in the area, though

...DeLorme ... a fly fishers best friend ? :-)

Yes ther are some good streams-and lakes - in northern Nevada. Most are
near the Sierra in northeastern Nevada, but there are a few in the north
east. However the Nevda Dept of Wildlife is not smart enough to encourage
catch and release, so only one stream, the East Fork of the Walker (near
California), is a trophy trout stream. Most other streams are put and take.
Fishing is fair if you can get away from the crowds, or get there shortly
after the hatchery truck.
The best lakes are the Walker and Pyramid which have lots of big cutthroat.
I don't know much about the northeast except that there are some good lakes
around Ely and Elko, and good stream fishing in the Jarbridge mts (some bull
trout too).
Most hard core fishermen of the Reno-Carson City-Gardnerville area buy
California licenses and do most of their fishing there. However California
closes most of its fishing in the Sierra the middle of November, and Nevada
keeps most areas open year round. Since our winters are mild, we trout
fish year round.
