TMC thread
i'm not sure i understand what you mean by "splicing"??? if i break the thread i just attach a hackle plier to the broken end and then i just retie in the tying thread. clip off the tage ends and i can continue to tie the rest of the fly. -- flytire http://www.danica.com/FLYTIER/nfrechette/nfrechette.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ flytire's Profile: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...php?userid=583 View this thread: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...ad.php?t=13561 ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

Normally I would use the Marc Petitjean thread for this, but since a friend of mine gave me a spool I thought to give the new TMC a chance. Up till now I have the experience that this thread is extremely thin, therefor gives nice small headif one likes and ties smoothly. Negative aspects are the fact that the thinness makes splicing the seperate fibers rather difficult, the thread brakes very easily (even the slightest touching of the hookpoint or something sharp/rough on the fly makes it break, and also the fact that it is about twice the the price of other brands (even considering the fact that there's more thread on a spool than there is with other brands). Anyone out there to share their experiences? Greetings, Hans van der Stroom Hans, Given the TMC's fragility, it seems to me the best way to use the TMC for MP style flys would be in a dubbing loop rather than splitting it. Still going to be fragile though. Steve |
