Green River - Feb.

I'm heading down to fish the Green River mid February to break up winter a
bit, cabin fever has set in big time.

Suggestions on the area for lodging, dinning, etc... The fly shops in the
area have pretty good updates on the fishing.

I understand Dutch John is a pretty small place?

Appreciate any info for the area.

Thanks,
JT

"Small" is an understatement. See for 'yourself'
(http://tinyurl.com/339koo) via googlemaps. Don't expect a tourist
town with ammenities.

I'd contact Trout Creek Flies for local lodging advice. Red Canyon
Lodge, or camping, are the only options I can think of at the moment.
Most people I know camp when they go. Food? Uh, Red Canyon Lodge? If
you don't mind driving an hour or so from fishing, Vernal, UT, should
have plenty of options for food and lodging.

Should be a great time for you if the weather cooperates.

Wow, that is small.

I spoke with Denny at Trout Creek, apparently they have 4 newer rooms that
rent for $77.00 off season and $95.00 summer season. He also mentioned the
Flaming Gorge Lodge, said they have rooms and breakfast, lunch and dinner
seven days a week. You know anything about this place?

From what I have read and heard it's a pretty good time to fish since there
are no crowds to contend with. My cousin sent me a picture of him fishing a
section last summer. I counted no less than a dozen drift boats and pontoon
boats in the picture. Crazy!

Appreciate the info,
JT

JT, only a dozen? :dizzy: It gets quite crowded much of the year and
it's nothing to see a lot of boat/pontoon traffic. At the same time,
there are more than enough fish to go around. Winter is the least
crowded for obvious reasons. If the weather cooperates, February
should be a good time for an outing. If you're going to be there for a
number of days, and depending on how the weather shapes up (I wouldn't
waste my money if the weather is brutal), you might consider a guided
float one day so you can cover some water.

I've no personal experience with the lodges in the area as I've never
used them during my trips to the Green. I imagine either one would be
fine but I wouldn't expect much more than a clean room and a bed. I
don't know what Denny's rooms are like but you can check out the
'Flaming Gorge Resort' (http://tinyurl.com/2jzeak) online.

If it looks good to you, the convenience of having three meals
available onsite there might be useful. They also have suites that
appear to have kitchens in them.

Good luck.
