That is my understanding, yes. But I can't prove it, and I don't know where

If I were you I'd start searching real hard.

I think I've seen nearly every known Winslow Homer, either in the
original or in reproduction. That's very probably his work, but not one
of his best efforts.

If you were to somehow come up with an uncatalogued original (not a
print) Winslow Homer, and if it could be documented, you would be in clover.

rw.....doesn't that look a bit more contemporary than Homer?? I think the
style is similar, but, like you, don't recognize it.(hardly a walking
catalog of his work here, but still, certain stylistic aspects look
different).
Nice painting, nonetheless. Phil should try and locate it, if indeed he
misplaced it.

It's more abstract than a typical Homer, and there are what I consider
to be faults in the left foreground water (which is crudely done, in
general), but I think that might be because it was a quick and
unfinished study. In any case, the original would be a treasure if it is
a Homer.

BTW, and sorry for responding to my own post, but fishing boats of all
types and situations -- moored, anchored, sailing into harbor, you name
it -- were a favorite theme of Homer's. His most well-known ones are of
Key West, of which this one obviously is not.

that is, in fact, a homer. you can just barely make out his script on
the bottom left. and, yes, rw, i think it is one of the worst of his
works that i have seen, and i, like you, have seen a ton of them.
