Thunderhole Creek--Wayno or any other NC FF with info?

Wayno,

What can ya tell me about gettin' into Thunderhole, besides the fact that a
bowling ball can do it fairly easily :~^ )

I plan to recon this creek today, but aside from topos and general knowledge
of the area, I don't know exactly where the best trail in and out are, can
ya help me?

Not braggin' but I took home a stringer of several hundred 15 to 20 inch
trout!

Seriously, I didn't catch much. It was windy and I didn't make it to
Thunderhole Creek. I did find an open loggin' road--apparently opened by the
U.S. Forestry Service. They are exploring the area for timber and hae run
into a road block in the way of Blowing Rock's ridge residents who don't
want their view of the Globe Valley distrurbed by any lunbering. It's funny,
but they don't mind that those of us down the mountain look up to see mega
house after mega house going up on the ridgelines, but they don't want to
look at small patches of missing forest? The Pisgah Forest in this area
covers some 58,000 or more acres and the USFS wants to cut about 234 acres
to restore turkey hunting and deer habitats, as well as harvest some
valuable lumber, of course. I don't like necessarily care for the way that
they forest around here--as they don't replant afterwards. However, I'm all
for creating more wildlife habitat areas, as our forests are notoriously
devoid of high quality forage material. The USFS plans to plant fuit trees
and sew grass areas where they have cleared, according to their proposals.

Anyway, back to fishin'. As I said, I didn't catch much, but Bear and I had
a great time out in the woods. I hadn't been fishin' in several months, so
it felt good just to cast a line.

Hope to make it up y'all way again one day.

Mark
