I am looking for a rod to fish the feather river for salmon and
steelhead. What are the best rods out their? Is the adg titan the best
rod out their? How does a orvis t3 compare? What about sage?

What about warranty? How much will the rod cost to fix if a fish breaks
it? What if I break it on a car door?

One: It's all a matter of taste. "Best" is relative, and there are many
fly rods that will do the job here.

Two: You're not talking about delicate fishing here. I chose to save my
money and go with a St. Croix Pro, lifetime warrantee, $100 out the door.

Three: There's a movement to use long two-handed rods for this type of
fishing. I can almost understand why. If you go this route, you might
need to spend more money.

Four: Many rod manufacturers offer unconditional warrantees on their rods
these days, and will basically charge shipping, if that, to replace a rod
damaged by any method. Loomis is the big exception that I know of, and I
think they have a $65 replacement fee policy. I don't now about adg.

People use 6, 7 and 8 weights mostly for steelheading in the valley rivers.

For salmon people use 8, 9 and 10 weights.

What other size good fly rods do you own? This is the big question.

Rod warranties are not all that different.

Price of rods does vary a lot.

For most fishing, salt or fresh, the weight/size of a rod is determined by
the size fly you are going to cast, and whether there is likely to be a lot
of wind or not. The size of the fish is often a secondary consideration.
Probably the most recommended size is an eight weight whether it is for
bass, steelhead or bonefish. However when you are fishing for steelhead,
you often need to mend the line. Therefore, the rod manufacturers often
make their salmon /steelhead rods in longer lengths, often 10'.

I have a 9 weight tfo and a 7/8 adg titanium. When I bought the rod it
had a unconditional warranty for $49 (reasonable) but they have decided
they are not making enough money so they are retroactively changing my
warranty to $98. Companies obviously have added warranty charges, have
any added a charge to rods retroactively?

Rod warranties are not all that different.

Lets say Tfo said "all rod repairs will not be $200 instead of $25,
regardless of when you bought it". That is what Adg did. It was $9.95
to fix /replace the reel. Now, it is $70. That includes those who
bought the reel when it was a unconditionalwarranty "if any part of the
reel fails to perform for any reason, send it to us for repairwith your
receipt and registration copy, and $9.50 for shipping and handling


Price of rods does vary a lot.
