Can anybody recommend a kid-friendly lodge?
 

I want to turn my son into a fisherman for life like my father did for me
when he took me to Ontario and I caught a 21 pound muskie on a handline -
still one of the great thrills of my life 50 years later. My boy's 10 and
we're spin fishermen - we live in Phoenix Arizona. I don't care what
species we fish for - I just want my son to catch fish, have a nice bed to
sleep in (this one time I want to move up from camping), have some good food
and I want to hire a guide who's a better fisherman than me and will treat a
young fisherman well. The closer to home the better but I'll consider
anything. Many thanks to any of you kind enough to share your advice!

One of the best guides I've ever fished with is rofb's own
Steve Huber. A muskie might be asking a bit much but I'm
quite sure he could put you and your son on enough fish to
make the trip memorable. And the Rhinelander, Wisconsin area
is a gorgeous place to fish.

There are guides on the Colorado River for bass and stripers. But maybe a
better idea is to also introduce your son to some of the other joys of life.
No not that one yet. Book a trip to Baja Sur (Cabo, East Cape, or La Paz)
or to Costa Rica. Take the wife and do some fishing on both the Pacific and
Caribbean sides. Tarpon out of Tortuguero will hook the kid for life.

excessive for trip like this. You do not have to stay in the 5 star places.

I have great memories of going to a northern Manitoba lodge in
Cranberry Portage. Also he sometimes took me to some cabin rentals on
the Lake Fork of the Gunnison in Colorado. I might have already been a
fisherman for life before those trips but the memories last a long
time. I would suggest you take the trip with some fun loving fisherman
friends and let your son learn and interact with others.
