Fly Tester
A few years ago Orvis in their Fly Tying Catalog had a fly testing machine that cost around $75.00. It consisted of a small water tank and pump. From the looks of it, you would tie off a fly to some tippet and place the fly inside the tank and the flow of water you would be able to see how the fly reacts in relationship to the flow. I thought it was cool, and forgot about it for a while, when I went to purchase one, they no longer carried them. Does anyone out there know of some type of fly tester that you would be able to observe the movements of your fly under water? -- AKSkim *.... Fly Tester
Thanks Burt. I am looking for something that I can actually view from the side, and for testing purposes, that I can replicate the same flow rates over and over again. AKS -- AKSkim *.... Fly Tester
Two Ideas, First you can give me your flies and I will tell you how they perform.. Two, You can thrown your flies in the toilet and flush...You may get a better view if you stick your head in the toilet just before you flush.. Hope that helps:D P.S. Never heard of such a contraption.. -- bkill http://tinyurl.com/6fmhmo ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bkill's Profile: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...hp?userid=2076 View this thread: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...ad.php?t=15350 ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

Does anyone out there know of some type of fly tester that you would be able to observe the movements of your fly under water? Hmmm, interesting. A quick google search only came up with analytical services or models beyond what I would call in the price range you'd be willing to spend. I can envision such a design using a large fishtank and some baffles to "straighten" the current flow. The fly could be lowered on a stick with some tippet attached. The volume of water could be controlled by a variable speed pump. You're probably better off building one yourself. -- klg neighbor There are some that call me Tim ------------------------------------------------------------------------ klg neighbor's Profile: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...hp?userid=1916 View this thread: http://www.njflyfishing.com/vBulleti...ad.php?t=15350 ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |
