Lawmaker: Let the carp in Pa. park eat bread

LINESVILLE, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania lawmaker is fighting to preserve a
tradition of visitors tossing hunks of bread to the carp at a park in the
state's northwest corner.

State Rep. Michele Brooks wants to sink the state parks department's plan
to ban people from feeding carp at a spillway in Pymatuning
(py-muh-TOON'-ing) State Park near Linesville unless they buy commercial
fish food pellets.

The parks department says some food thrown to the fish isn't healthy for
them.

And it says the fish feeders create problems with discarded bread wrappers
and other litter.

More than 300,000 people come to feed the throngs of carp each year. Brooks
says her own family visits the spillway every year "and we throw bread."

imagine that, lets ban something that they are doing, sounds like they need
to install more trash cans. I figure if feeding fish bread is bad, then I
guess feeding ducks and geese bread is bad too. and our tax money is going
toward someone trying to pass a law to not throw bread, doesn't surprise me
the slightest.
