Fishin yesterday afternoon
Well I finally got everything hooked up registered and ready to go so
I thought I would go out on a local lake. Launched the boat and got the engine started pretty easily. Stayed tied to the dock while I got the Lowrance 522C up and running. It's the first time I used it on the water. Works pretty good but needs to have the levels turned down on the sonar. The GPS seems to do what a GPS is supposed to do. I worked the North shore which has a lot of pads and reeds. Mostly shallow 3' to 5'. Used several types of jigs and jig head worms along with spinner baits, twister tail tiny spinners and power worms. Not a taker. Maybe it was the huge weed cutting machine that was working the North shore also. I never did fish close to him. I worked a couple of nice coves and never got a hit. Worked to the back of one cove and found a channel going out of the back of it. Water temps on the lake were 64+ and in the cove going into the channel were 65 to 69 degrees. The coves and channel had no beds that I could see and I looked over a lot of sandy areas along shore and in the channel. The water level appears to be down about 7 feet. I cruised slow into the main center of the lake and talked to several other fishermen. Most thought the Bass and Crappies would be spawning. Only one boat with three guys had fish and that was only 2 small 1 1/2 pound Bass and 12 inch Crappie. They had been out for most of the day. The deepest part of the lake is only 8 to 12 feet and there does not appear to be any channels running through it. All in all it was a good time. I need to take the wooden deck apart cause it is starting to give up the ghost. I also know I have leaks in my live well plumbing and I want to change to a different type and shape live well. Also remembered the prop on the engine is too small and I need to change it out with my spare. Revs up real quick :{ I may go out tomorrow and try the main lake instead of the North shore. _ Dan TOASTY in Florida for now Remove the X for e-mail reply www.outdoorfrontiers.com www.SecretWeaponLures.com A proud charter member of "PETAF", People for Eating Tasty Animals and Fish!!! |

Always good to get on the water. Early bass often bed very shallow
here - not sure about there. I look for very protected waters less than two feet deep. Ronnie http://fishing.about.com |

Ronnie http://fishing.about.com I didn't cover all of the shallows but enough on the North shore that was protected behind reed beds to think they may not be in yet. The area leading into the channel was very sheltered also and no beds there either. I have to find out more about the smaller lake at the other end of the channel. There are several areas off the channel that looked like they would be absolutely great if the water was up. Lookin at wundermap at weather underground showed me the areas I was lookin at from the water. These areas, with about a 7 foot rise in water depth look like they would be where the Bass would spawn. Now they look like areas only airboats can get through. There appeared to be evidence of that along the shore. The little lake at the end of the channel must be deeper than these areas cause I've been told it holds enough water for boats to get around and fish. I'll go across the lake to the channel real slow and quarter back and forth looking for structure on my way. Thought a surface temp of 65 to 69 in the shallows would trigger spawning??? Dan |

I would think they would spawn with water that warm, especially with
the full moon last week. Seen any signs of old beds? A trick worm worked around shallow cover might pick upsome bucks guarding fry. Ronnie http://fishing.about.com |

Not sure what is going on. Maybe it's cause we have had several hard freeze nights in the last couple of weeks. Not sure what is happening. prolly go out tomorrow and check around some more. _ Dan TOASTY in Florida for now Remove the X for e-mail reply www.outdoorfrontiers.com www.SecretWeaponLures.com A proud charter member of "PETAF", People for Eating Tasty Animals and Fish!!! |
