Fine colored wire
At this point in history the fly shops all have copper wire, of medium
size, in various colors, but I'm looking for colored wire of similar nature in much finer gauge. I've taken to getting my ribbing wire by stripping out phone wire and using the individual strands of copper, which are smaller than what comes on spools in fly shops and great for small flies, but I want some colored ( mainly a reddish brown ) Seems I've seen what I want in the windings of various electrical gadgets I've broken over the years but I don't have a clue what type of store to shop in or what to ask for to find this wire on spools. Suggestions? |

Cheap goodies for fly tying and spinning lures. And then there are fabric stores -- tying materials at 5% of fly shop costs. cheers oz, leaving for Bull Shoals in the morning to accompany a Minnesota friend on a striper and walleye hunt -- maybe a trout or three below the dam, if I can tie and gag him. |

It comes in multiple colors and I use it on nymphys down to size 22. Forget the junk heaps. A spool is not very expensive and it beats trying to find colored wire, be it black, brown, red, yellow, gold, copper, green, blue, orange....... ya get the idea..... Dave |

Suggestions? Hi Larry, A friend and customer of mine owns this company: http://www.craftwires.com/index.phtml?click=|0|5&shopper=1256341376 Aluminum Fly Tying Wire in Anodized Colors: Red, Blue, Green, Gold, Black, Clear AWG 26, 28 & 34 It aluminum, not copper, but you do get a lot of colors. Maybe it will work for what you want -- maybe the Gold or the Red. (I have never used it myself. I have the local fly shop tie my stuff for me.) HTH, -T |
