What fly fishing item would you like for Christmas?
I would like to get a 4 or 5wt switch rod setup. Since that won't
happen, I would really like the Tomsu's Supreme Hopper set from River

How 'bout you folks? You have any secret or not so secret fly fishing/
tying items on your wish list?

Round trip ticket to New Zealand, knock out prescription ( so I could,
possibly, survive the claustrophobia of the flights), and camper-van
rental down there for 80 days

More realistically, I honestly can't think of anything in the way of
equipment I need, or even want, right now. Getting to the got every
thing I need stage is a bit of a milestone in fly fishing life, good
or bad.

Sure, I could "upgrade" a few items, but my liberal-greenie-tree-
hugger nature balks and balks hard at replacing something that is
doing it's intended job just fine 'cause it ain't the newest model.

I saw a spot on the oriental news show on my PBS station a few days
ago about bartering stores and websites in Japan ... apparently
trading my "ain't using it anymore" for yours is getting to be a
pretty big thing there and very organized. I haven't heard much
about anything of this nature being formally organized over here ....
anyone else?

I'm still looking for non-felt soled wading boots which won't
turn my wading into a Full Reid waiting to happen. I have both
of the new rubber compound soles from Chota, the RockLoc rubber
and the newer Dual Density ATX100 rubber on the Caney Fork shoe
but I don't feel as solid as felt unless I have the studs in.
And studs are not an option in my canoe.

Has anybody tried the new Korkers ?

It looks like the soles are easy enough to interchange so that
I could just slip on a studded sole when I get out of the boat
and put on a non-studded one when it's time to paddle on.

Patagonia has some new models and technology on the near horizon, I'm
told by what should be a very reliable source
BUT .... who knows if it will REALLY be any better than current non-
felt soles



I know a couple guys that use the korkers with interchangeable soles
and seemed pleased ... but I don't think they are doing changes
several times a day ... more like a couple a week as they move around
between waters

She's turned out as well as can be expected given the limitations
of her trainer. I haven't fired a single shot all season. I flushed
a covey of quail myself that she blissfully ignored but I couldn't
get a shot off. In her defense I trained her with pheasant scented
dummies and dead pheasants so she doesn't know she's supposed to
flush quail too. Dogs don't generalize worth a damn. ;-)

She does fine in the canoe but her body language tells me she'd
rather be in the water and she's only staying in the canoe to humor
me. She's turned out to be really great astream, she'll sit in a
stay forever until I release her to follow me upstream. I'm sort
of attached to her by now, so hunting aside, I'll keep her. ;-)

How is your "plain, old, regular" dog doing ?

I use older models of

and

both are very comfortable and the boots give all the support they
need. The soles are not hard to change but not as easy as they claim.
I have a couple of friends that have the boot you posted the link to
and they really like that cabled lace system but I would just as soon
tie my laces and save the dollars for other things.

Ken, I know you don't trust my opinion much, but for you non-conoing
excursions you might like to look at Simms' G4 waders with the star
cleats. I was very skeptical about their ability to keep me upright
but was very impressed once I used them. They are fairly expensive--
$219 for boots, $40 for cleats. I am sold on Simms' products after my
experienc with my last pair of their wadin' boots, which lasted me
