I just picked up a medalist 1495DA in excellent condition. I plan to put wf-8
line on it, but was just wondering how much 20lb backing this reel will hold.

Thanks

Easily 100 yards. It's a big reel.

With an WF8 you should get between 120-150 yards of 20# Micron on, depending
on how aggressive you want to get (I always leave around 1/4" of "freeboard"
on my spools, that'd get you the lower figure).

Not a great combination for bones but it'd work great for stripers...

My Pflueger 1495½ holds 400 yards of Micron
i.e. your 1495 may hold much more than 150 yards.

Really?

Pflueger claimed 175 yards of 20# Micron for your reel, which was a full inch
thick, verses the 13/16" thick spool of a 1495, for which they claimed 150
yards...

Here's what Pflueger says.

I hope you got an old one. The new ones aren made in some part of China
that's not up to normal Chinese standards.
Probably an old AK-47 factory.

Maybe he filled it with just Micron?
