Public meeting set on problem of Asian carp in Ky.
GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. ? There's a growing problem with Asian carp in
Kentucky, and state officials are planning a meeting to talk about ways to fight it. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources says Asian carp are a highly invasive species that can outcompete native fish species for food. The agency says two species of Asian carp have infiltrated larges areas of the state from the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. They are the bighead carp and the silver carp. ? Follow NKY news on Twitter ... and on Facebook Fish and Wildlife says commercial fishermen and potential markets show the greatest potential for getting rid of large quantities of Asian carp in Kentucky and Barkley lakes and the tributaries inhabited by the fish. The public meeting will be at 7 p.m. CDT May 31 at Kentucky Dam Village Convention Center in Gilbertsville. http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB...sectionstories |
