LIGONIER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Vice President Dick Cheney is being criticized
for shooting duck and pheasant Monday at the Rolling Rock Club in
Ligonier, Westmoreland County, Team 4's Jim Parsons reported.

Mark Bolish, an employee of the exclusive private club, told Channel 4
Action News that Cheney shot about 70 stocked pheasants and mallards
that were released for a group of hunters. More than 400 of the
farm-raised birds were killed in all.

OK, I'm replying to my own post. **** me. Isn't anyone taking the bait?
Is shooting 70 farm-raised pheasants and ducks in one day sportsmanlike?
Is it hunting? Isn't it more like target practice?

This represents the attitude of easy entitlement that so disgusts me
about people like Cheney.

I guess I am far more disgusted about other aspects of Cheney, et al.
Personally, I would be a content soul if he spent all his time from next
January on duck hunting in whatever fashion he chooses.

my visceral response-no, it isn't sportsman-like. it's ****ed up!
my intellectual response- is it really much different from fishing in
stocked ponds, and raising animals for the sole purpose of slaughtering them
for human consumption?

Snakefiddler-no, i'm not a vegetarian ......

You never caught a stock rainbow, which was specifically planted for the
purpose of being caught? Fished on the redds? Judge not, lest you be
judged.

What politicians do with their free time, whether having blowjobs or
shooting sitting ducks, is infinitely more preferable to what some of them
do at work.

Its a very common form of "hunting" pheasants where they don't
propagate well naturally. Here in northern Wisconsin they haven't done
well in the wild but there are several places near me where that type
of shooting goes on. You pay by the bird whether you end up killing
them or not. So his party put down a lot of cash to shoot all those
birds. Is it hunting...no, not in my opinion. I consider it little
more than target practice wherein the targets get eaten, hopefully.
Like its been said, there are alot more reasons to dislike Cheney than
this little excursion. Of course, this may be indicative of why he is
a poor choice for an ally even if he does fly fish for trout. People
in his economic bracket will always have access to game and fish, so
why should he care about public game and fish and the woods and waters
they inhabit.

I wouldn't call it hunting but it doesn't matter to me, but what he did
with all the dead birds might.

It gives you a view of the future as the Neocons envision utopia. They have
won the class war they started. They have sold off the most of the national
forest. The areas with the best trout streams have gone to the super rich
and the rest have been clear cut, stripe mined and cyanide leached. The
Clarke fork, Madison, Gallatin etc. are all private property. Quality
fishing if is available to you only on a fee basis similar to the English
system and off limits to 95% of the people. The rest of us are bombarded
with magazine articles on fly-fishing for carp, in which we are continually
remineded how great it is.
