John (Asadi) and Wolfgang in kayaks, Jeff Miller & Joe McIntosh in
Jeff's canoe and DavePA and me in a tandem kayak. Before we were all in
the water, Wolfgang and Jeff had both caught fish...

In typical ROFFian fashion, it was around noon when we finally got
everyone in the water at New Berlin, a more than 30 minute drive
downstream from Coburn. Water temp = 67F, air temp low 70s, mostly
overcast, water slightly murky. Good bass fishing conditions.

Over the course of a 5 hour float, everyone caught fish. Jeff Miller
caught the largest smallmouth of the trip, probably 15" or better. He
may not have been using a fly rod at the time...

DavePA complained non-stop about my lack of proper ghillie skills (with
good reason, I'll admit) though he did manage half a dozen fish before
he snagged the bottom and broke his rod! Thankfully, we were less than
30 minutes from the end of the float when this happened.

Wolfgang seemed to really enjoy himself. He caught lots of fish and
would have liked to continue to float for another hour or two.

John cooked us a hot sausage & onion lunch and Jeff provided the beer.
Dave even had a few burgers in his cooler. We were all stuffed when
luch was over. Excellent streamside fare.

I'd call it a success, even though I only managed to bring two fish to
hand. I missed at least a good half dozen, and if my ghillie skills are
woefully inadequate, DavePA's weren't much better and he had the
disadvantage of a front seat. We both preferred the float, stop & wade
approach over the float & fish method.

Headed back over to Coburn this evening for a few hours astream before
the feed & raffle.

Sorry, no flotilla pics - I wisely chose to leave the camera in the
truck. Maybe I'll get a few pics this evening.

So far, no cicada hatch here.

I'd like to see a picture of a monster PA brown caught by a ROFFer before
the Penn's clave has it's tenth anniversary! (g)

All the "guys holding beers at the raffle pictures" are pretty amusing,
don't get me wrong.... (g) but I'd like a few with fish in them - and the
streams and the bugs, etc.

I have a friend who has been compiling the best pictures of Penn's bugs I have
ever seen(by far!!). This year, I am going to try and compile a Penn's CD of
fish,places, bugs, and yes, people standing about drinking beer. Will keep all
posted.

just got home today...posted two photos of same fish for you on abpf...
someone will have to reduce size of the photo as i forgot to do it...
i'll redo them tomorrow. decent weather overall, stream was fine until
today because of heavy rain last night. makela did his usual job of
snaring several nice fish (i witnessed two), but tough fishing for most
of us. i'll post more tomorrow. had a late night poker, pasta, wine
fest last night and need sleep... roger seemed to enjoy his time on
penns, and, though a bit fogged with eastern camaraderie (and davepa) at
the time, he's thinking about visiting you westerners in july. i urge
you to encourage him. he's a dedicated, intelligent, and passionate
fisherman...without question, he's the finest caster i've ever seen in
my limited experience, and one hell of a nice guy. based on his
descriptions, we all need to consider visiting him in sweden next year...

You guys really OUGHT to consider coming to the Swedish Clave. Its hard to
describe the abundance and size of the fish, the venue, the clean air and
water.....its a last little slice of heaven up there. If I ever disappear
off the face of the earth, that's the place to start looking for me.
