First Bass on a fly!

There have been reports that the largemouth bass fishing at a local
reservoir on sunny days is getting pretty good . I've been there twice this
year to no avail- but both times were cold, windy, and overcast. Yesterday
I decided to give it another go- after all it was cold, windy, overcast, and
raining. I got out of the office at 5:00, fooled around getting gear ready
and left town promptly at 6:00-so it was about 7:00 before I was at the
reservoir and ready to fish. About my fourth or fifth cast a nice spunky
little 14" l/m nailed the little green popper I was using. fished for
another 1-1/2 hours with no joy- fighting fairly stiff winds. As I was
heading back to the car, I noticed a little bay, more of a flooded
depression really, that was right next to the car that I had not fished on
the way out so I rowed the pontoon boat into the bay (maybe 40 yards across)
and a 19" bucketmouth inhaled the deerhair popper I had switched over to :-)
yee -haw.

No-I'm not going over to the dark side- I floated the Blackfoot twice this
weekend as penance. Salmonflies, grey drakes, caddis, and another stonefly
(don't know what it was- similar to a little Yellow Sally- but I don't think
they were,) were all out. Water was & is fast, high, and off-color. Browns
laying on the bank- cut-bows in deeper, faster water. My first attempt at
floating a river in a pontoon boat- pretty cool, but things can sure happen
fast if you get complacent. Yesterday I landed a nice, probably 3+ lb
cut-bow, fat as a football and 18-20" long. made the day. (is this what
you call a paradigm??)

saw a wolf too- I didn't know there was some private concern raising 100%
pure wolves in the area- I just looked up as we were driving out of the
takeout area and there it was across the highway and maybe 100 yds or so up
the hillside - man them things are big!
