Just got a 16" brookie make that 18", 2 lb, 3 oz How were the takes, the fights, the heft of the living creatures in your hand...? No offense (honestly), and at the risk of calling down upon my humorless head the wrath of the roffraff, and admittedly without even having looked at the thang in question, I ask: what's the deal here? Bad, fair, good, better..... any computer game is, by its nature (a simulation), everything that fly fishing ain't and nothing that fly fishing is. No.... but it's FUN. Good. As long as folks are playing it they won't be cluttering up the rivers. Curmudgeonly yours, |

Indeed, in some of the other "rivers" in the full version, there are fish that'll break you off on 2X... :-) FWIW, it *is* fun! You can only get to the next river by completing a task list (ex. catch a 5 lb. brown and a 5 lb. rainbow), and each river is progressively more difficult to fish. The simulation seems pretty realistic as far as fish behaviour (indeed, they can be quite selective, for example, and one can *usually* catch bigger fish during a hatch by nymphing, etc.). Takes a bit to get used to "casting" with the mouse. In the last scenario, the wind blows most of the time at 10-15 mph at frustrating angles. Part of the final task list is to catch a 10 lb. fish. I've hooked it several times, but always get broken off. The fish in that scenario are "well educated", and it's often a challenge just to catch *one*, regardless of size. Probably the most frustrating thing is that you're confined to one bank. Would be easier to be able to wade out and get a better angle at times. You can also hang yourself up on the back cast. In your fly box, you only get three of each pattern, and if you lose them, you're SOL. You *can* wing it with similar patterns, but they won't take nearly as well. Good way to kill some time when it's been raining and your favourite water is blown out. :-) On the other hand, I agree it's *no* replacement for the real thing, but it's (sometimes maddeningly) fun! :-) Todd (remove hook to reply) |
