Pattern Request -- Isle Royale NP, Michigan
Well, sort of in Michigan. Closer to Minnesota's Boundary Waters than
anything. My guess is that any fly that works in the Minnesota or UP lakes would work. I'll be trying to get some trout in Lake Siskwit the first week of June. I know it's a bit early to head that far north, but that's the time I get this year.... The less complicated the pattern, the better. I'm not a total rookie, but I'm certainly not that experienced, either. Any help you folks can give would be much appeciated. Thanks, Dan Chicago area |

Stopped at a fly shop and picked up a pattern I never would have guessed to use. It's a simple black fly/deer fly pattern. Probably a size 16 or 14, black foam body and grizzly hen wings laid down flat like a housefly would be. I caught some brookies that had so many naturals like this in them, they were coming out of their mouths! I'd think the pattern would work in June, as the black flies will be out. Bill |
