Saltwater spinning Reel question

I have a Master sal****er spinning reel. What is the "Anti-reverse switch"
used for? Thanks.

Saltwater spinning Reel question

It's to keep the reel handle and bail from spinning in reverse. If you've
ever had your knuckles cracked by the reel handle when the big one hits,
you'll understand. With the switch off, tangles are more common

Around here, they call that 'knuckle buster' mode.
