Fishing - Burnham-on-Crouch fishing

Marks of the river Thames have in recent years have more from up river
marks. Well I spoke to a local trawler man the other day and he told me
that
the river is full of small flounders. It seems that these fish just head
straight up the centre of the river these days.

The roker population is very strong this year, with heaps of nets out
there,
there have still been some good catches of roker from various marks. The
river Crouch appears to have plenty well up river as has the Thames with
fish from the beach as far up as Tilbury, which is very unusual. Reports
also suggest an early mackerel invasion from the Thames like last year.

Southend boats have had some good roker catches with some eels, dogfish,
small bass and pouting. Large amounts of the former of these fish have
been
reported from the river Medway. One angler reported several smoothounds
from
a couple of marks but most below the 6lb mark. Southend pier where an
angler
landed ten mackerel and six garfish in a session the other day, spells for
another possible good season. Steve Hagger has landed an excellent roker
of
18lb from the Tidechaser. It was landed on a Daiwa TDU 410 and a Penn965
using a flowing trace with herring for bait. Plenty of roker from within
the
Crouch boundaries with fish to be caught from almost anywhere from the
shore, but Fambridge being the best bet with squid and or herring.

Boats out from the river Blackwater marks have found roker to double
figures, some smoothounds and dogfish. However skipper Dave Weaving took
one
of his famed long distance wreck trips with a good end result. Six anglers
from Tiptree in Essex, drifted over a wreck with some boats from Ostend
with
little result. They then anchored over another wreck, fished with squid
baits and landed 26 cod to 18lb with the best being caught by Gerry
Playgrove. Brothers Frank and Vince Hardcastle got in on the act on their
first wrecking trip with five fish each. The smallest fish caught was 5lbs
with the average being 8/9lbs, to book a trip with Dave ring him on 01206

Hi,

along with a couple of friends, I intend doing a spot of fishing next
month
from a boat - either in the Crouch river itself, or a couple of miles off
the coast. Can anyone tell me what fishing there is in the area - and if
eating the catch is recommended...
