Smeaton, have U fished it??how d'ya do?

I'm thinking of going to Smeaton Lakes with my father for a week, has anyone
been there, if so, did you catch, and was it quiet....any fish is a bonus,
doesn't have to be 20lb Carp.....Cheers...FRED C

Fished it 4 times (few year ago) had a 20 out couple of scraper doubles but
wouldn't go back, the fish were in poor condition if you only get 2 idiots
on your lucky, he used to take the keys to your motor off you so late night
curry runs are out. You can have some brekky however my advise would be to
skip it ;). The main problem is unless you get 1 of 3 pegs you will struggle
to find 3 features in the your swim also there's not a lot of room so if
like me you spread yourself out then you won't enjoy it (and lets be honest
that's why your going). It may have changed hands since and improved who
knows.

You may be better looking at the A1 pits (think quite a few have come out of
6 since it re-opened also they have cured the bream problem in there) and
seems well run now unlike before. You can always have a look in one of the
other lakes if you want a couple of hundered pound of bream in a session (5
isn't that bad tbh).

Not sure where your from but east yorks has a few nice places, Greengrass if
you fancy a few cats (to about 45 with lots of smaller ones) with your carp
(to 30 not a large amount thou) also a chance of a sturgeon :-), Leven
that's nice and peaceful lots of fish to high 20's (you get the bonus of a
log cabin as well with power) Emmetland lotta fish don't know a lot more
thou.
Anyway food for thought

Cheers for the info mate, ...actually i'm from cleethorpes, and there isn't
a whole lot of decent lakes round here,....a few smallish ponds, but i'm
still after my 1st double carp ..I've only been fishin' for ..( this is 4th
season ), but i've had about 20 carp in the 6-9 pound group....waitin' for a
big 'un....but it's a case of travelling, say, fifty miles at most....One
good bream session does me for the year, and had a 100lb from
Ancaster...(Specimen Lake), didn't see anyone catch any 'Specimens' though,
come to think of it, not even a Carp came out from any swim ....in 48
hours......We went specifically for Bream, so all was OK....Anyway, cheers
again, looks like Smeaton will be given a miss.....All the Best....FRED

Comforting to read Fred.

I am a Lincolnshire Yellow Nelly but lived in Wiltshire.

Got the Carp bug 2 years ago - still waiting for my first double (on the
bank), got the bug when big bugger took my 3lb line and toyed with me for
15 minutes. Even my wife was excited (at least something excites her these
days ;-)). Just short of the landing net and it shook off. Simple gear
using flake on the surface.

Read lots, tried lots, fished lots but not yet caught Mr Double. But he'll
come.

Oh - on a syndicate water in Lincs/Cambs. They reckon to 28lb....here's
hoping

Ha, i knew you meant 'yellow' when i read it 1st time, I went to Place
called Tattershall 'Moon Lake' on May?(TUesday), about a 1 acre
pond/lake..island in middle.....I fished a piece of phoney corn for 1st
time, popped up 6" from feeder, got 2 carp, biggest 2lb, then the sun came
out, and got 3 off top, using dead cheap dog biccys from Wilkos, used a
baitband to keep 'em on.I was praising bands the other day on this group,
but they were as weak as the proverbial, kept snapping...anyway, a4 and
halg, a 5, and a 7...countless 'takes' off the top, trying to suss out what
i'm doing wrong, 'cos there should have been about 10 landed at
least......my old boy 'Blanked', and drove me back a bit glum, mumbling
about the baitbands showing the hook to the carp, all the way back to
Cleethorpes...Going back,prob Friday, hoping it'll be sunny...smaller hook
this time.(used a 10), and i'll hair rig the dog-B......Cheers FRED

Yes, the 2 types i choose do!!, They have special 'red' plastic bins where
you scoop out the amount you need....the triangle shaped ones,(about size of
a 10p)..well they're ideal, and also the ones that are cubed,(very similar
to chum mixers), except you van get about enough for the season for a
quid..heh heh.
BTW, I did go to Moon Lake (Tattershall),on Friday....got 6 Carp and so
close to double, it was 9lb8oz, one of 7+,a6+, so all in all a good day. I
noticed that the triangular type biscuit, was the one they took all the time
on-th-top.....My old boy got an 8,and 5 more 5+.....Good luck with the
10...........FRED
