This was in Sept and Nov (when it is quieter anyway) and I also avoided the week end. The day ticket lake is around 20 acres (an old quarry) but lacks surface features (very big time). So you do need to find the underwater features to do well. Consequently, you will need a marker set up or similar. Most swims have features close to medium range, and don't ignore the margins. You can't wander .... you have to fish from your selected peg/swim so spend some time walking around the place first ... it will be time well spent. You will find that the bailiff is a very friendly and helpful person and will assist by explaining were these are 'roughly' for your chosen swim so you shouldn't spend to much time finding them. However, some are quite small in area so you will need to cast carefully. However, that said the water seems to fish quite well all year. Whilst carp is the main species the water also holds double figure bream and tench. Pellet or Boilies seem the favoured hook baits ..... I fished Solar Club Mix over Betain and CSL pellet with success. I used Korda Funnel Web so the pellet was presented alongside the hook bait but many boil the pellet to form a soft mix and mould the same around the lead. I prefer my idea because you can include a few whole freebie hook baits as well. I supplemented this by offering more scattered free hookbaits with a catapult. If you get an opportunity take a look at the syndicate lake and see what you think .... that is more my type of water. Regards ....... Richard |

nice reply.....thanx a lot.......got a marker float and all that.....and
i always fish the margins at night wherever i am.....shame you can't go for a stalk though.....i'll probably be fishing particles with a stringer of B2 boilies over the top.....do you reckon i should put a fair bed of bait in or play safe for a bit and see what happens?....i'm thinking they'll be a few fish up in the water with it warming up a bit.....i saw on a website that the carp in there average 20lb but i don't know how true it is(my record is 13lb 8oz)..but hopefully i'll get into a few fish...i'll be there for 5 days so it'll be a bit grim if i don't...anyway thanks again for the advice. In general large beds of bait don't work at catch 22 and the advice from the bailiff is to avoid this tactic. I have witnessed and heard of those that ignored this advice and most seem to do badly. .....i'm thinking they'll be a few fish up in the water with it warming up a bit.....i saw on a website that the carp in there average 20lb but i don't know how true it is(my record is 13lb 8oz). Probably do now, Ime _2 years ago_ if you caught a carp it would be 15+lbs. ..but hopefully i'll get into a few fish...i'll be there for 5 days so it'll be a bit grim if i don't...anyway thanks again for the advice. It won't matter how long you are there if you fish it badly ..... I spoke to one guy who had spent about £350+ on day tickets and was still waiting for his first carp. We had a chat to him and that night he got 3 ..... co-incidence I guess ;o) Richard |

I seem to recall that Julian Cundiff fished this a couple of years ago and
wrote several articles for Carpworld - you might want to check this out. "wb¿dw" wrote in message ... I might be going there at the end of the month and would appreciate any tips/advice on bait and tactics....and would like to hear of any good/bad sessions anyone's had there. ta |
